Professional Biography
Mr. Simpson, a paralegal with Smith|Hartvigsen, earned
his J.D. degree from John F. Kennedy School of Law in 1994
and is licensed to practice law in California. He is
not admitted to practice in Utah. Mr. Simpson assists
in matters involving all aspects of intellectual property,
including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, licensing and
litigation, and complex commercial and general litigation.
Prior to joining Smith|Hartvigsen, Mr. Simpson spent 12
years working in the intellectual property field while at
Dechert and DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary in its Silicon
Valley office. He has worked on intellectual property
cases in Europe, the United States and the Pacific Rim.
Much of his intellectual property experience has been for
technology and medical companies such as Apple, Intel,
Boston Scientific/SciMed and Hyundai. He has also done
significant work for British technology and intellectual
property holding company Elonex.
Mr. Simpson also has experience with
Water Rights and Land Use. He has helped evaluate
Water Rights for dedication to municipalities, and assisted
in preparing Change Applications, Water Deeds, and Reports
of Conveyance. He has worked on several Water Sale
Contracts and participated in several zoning and annexation
matters. Mr. Simpson is an experienced Case Manager.
He has managed teams of attorneys on complex matters
involving electronic production and review of documents
totaling eight (8) million records.
Mr. Simpson has served as a guest lecturer on subjects
related to intellectual property, law practice management,
and ethics at several law schools. He is a registered
Utah lobbyist.
